Clear answers

Community Cat FAQs

Straightforward guidance on humane population management, return-to-origin protocols and what organisations can expect.

What is community cat management?

It is a structured, humane approach to stabilise and gradually reduce free-roaming cat populations. It combines population monitoring, targeted veterinary care, return to origin and controlled feeding rather than relying on temporary removal.

How is it different from a trapping service?

A trapping service focuses on a single intervention. Community cat management begins with a site assessment and continues through veterinary treatment, safe return, feeding controls, communication, complaint resolution and long-term monitoring.

What do TNR, TNVR and TNVMR mean?

TNR means Trap–Neuter–Return. TNVR adds vaccination. TNVMR adds both vaccination and microchipping before return, creating a traceable veterinary record for each managed cat.

Why are cats returned to their original locations?

Cats are territorial. Returning sterilised cats to their home range helps maintain a stable, non-breeding colony. Repeated removal can create a vacuum that allows unsterilised cats to enter and reproduce.

How are community complaints handled?

Concerns are logged and addressed at their source—for example by adjusting feeding zones, improving cleaning routines, managing unsterilised-cat behaviours and communicating clearly with residents and site teams.

Is 1001 Paws an emergency rescue service?

No. 1001 Paws UAE is focused on planned, site-wide population management programmes for authorities, developers and property operators. Emergency veterinary cases should be directed to an appropriate local veterinary or municipal service.
