Responsible Feeding & Monitoring

Responsible feeding uses approved locations, suitable schedules and quantities, clean water, prompt waste removal and named caretakers. Combined with colony records and regular observation, it supports welfare and programme measurement while reducing scattered food, pests, odour, nuisance and unmanaged movement across a community.

What is responsible feeding?

Responsible feeding is a controlled part of colony management, not random food placement. The programme identifies suitable locations, schedules and quantities; provides clean water where appropriate; assigns responsibility; and requires food waste and containers to be removed or maintained so that the area remains hygienic.

How does feeding support management?

Observation

Regular attendance helps identify new, sick, injured or unsterilised cats.

Predictability

Defined routines reduce scattered feeding and unmanaged food sources.

Hygiene

Cleaning and waste controls reduce odour, pests and resident concerns.

Records

Colony status and changes can be documented consistently over time.

How is smart feeding being explored?

Dubai Municipality’s Ehsan Smart Cat Feeding Station is being piloted in 1001 Paws UAE managed colonies. The pilot sits within a broader management system that includes site assessment, veterinary care, return-to-origin, caretaker responsibilities, hygiene and ongoing monitoring.
