TNVR, TNVMR & Return-to-Origin
TNR means Trap-Neuter-Return. TNVR adds vaccination, while TNVMR adds vaccination and microchipping before return. In a managed programme, cats are humanely assessed, treated, recovered, documented and returned to their original territory, where sterilised resident cats help maintain a stable, non-breeding colony.

Why are cats returned to the same location?
Community cats are territorial. Returning sterilised cats to their home range helps preserve a stable, non-breeding colony. Repeated removal can leave a vacuum: available territory and resources may attract new, unsterilised cats, allowing breeding and complaints to begin again.
What does humane delivery require?
- Plan before trapping: confirm veterinary capacity, timing, transport, recovery and contingencies.
- Use appropriate equipment: minimise stress and avoid injury or exposure.
- Check identity and condition: look for collars, ear tips and microchips before treatment.
- Record veterinary care: document treatment, identification and recovery.
- Return and monitor: return safely to the original location and continue management.
